Paul Pfeiffer

Paul Pfeiffer’s sculptures and digital media works establish deep connections between forms of contemporary culture—including sports, televised game shows, and pop music—and histories of art, religion, politics, and nationhood. Pfeiffer’s work has been featured at such festivals and exhibition series as the Whitney Biennial, MoMA PS1’s Greater New York, the Sydney Biennale, and the Venice Biennale.

About the Artist

Paul Pfeiffer (b. 1966, Honolulu) currently lives and works in New York and Manila. A featured artist in the PBS series Art in the Twenty-First Century, he has received a number of awards, most notably a United States Artists Fellowship (2015), a Herb Alpert Award in the Arts (2009), and the inaugural Bucksbaum Award from the Whitney Museum of American Art (2000).

Pfeiffer’s solo museum shows and projects include presentations at the Inhotim Institute, Brazil (2018); Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (2017); Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Manila (2015); Artangel, London (2014); and Sammlung Goetz, Munich (2011). Pfeiffer earned a BFA in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute, an MFA from Hunter College in New York, and was a participant in the Whitney’s Independent Study Program.
