Where Does Art Lie?

Virtual

Mark Godfrey, a man with close cropped dark hair with a bit of a beard. He's wearing a white shirt, suit coat, and necktie

Curator Mark Godfrey opens up about his curatorial interests and practice, speaking to where his work is leading him as well as pointing to traditions, abstractions, and possibilities in art making.

Godfrey, the guest curator of our current Jacqueline Humphries exhibition, will open up about his interests and practice, highlighting the recent evolutionary shifts in gallery spaces and shifts in his own curatorial work. Referencing Humphries’s work and others, Godfrey will ruminate on what happens when advocacy, dissent, protest, and critique are presented in the gallery space. He'll also ask what's possible in these public spaces that wasn't before. What might these spaces and those of us working in and with them be doing, thinking about, and practicing? How can curators work with the public beyond the gallery in ways that are different, timely, relevant, critical, and new?
