Trailer: Ray & Liz

May 07, 2019

Production still from the 2018 film Ray and Liz by Richard Billingham

Turner Prize-nominated British artist Richard Billingham grew up poor in subsidized housing with his alcoholic father Ray and his violent, tattooed mother Liz. He started taking pictures of his parents with the idea of using them as studies for paintings, but he was encouraged to show the photos instead. The series "Ray's a Laugh" put Billingham on the contemporary art map and prompted his debut as a filmmaker with Ray and Liz, a semi-fictionalized portrayal of the artist's family life as a youth. In Columbus, it screens exclusively at the Wex May 17-18. Here's the trailer.
