Diamantino

(Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt, 2018)

Diamantino

A quintessential “you have to see it to believe it” movie, this is filmmaking at its most wild and original! Diamantino follows a big-hearted but empty-headed Portuguese soccer hunk (played by the magnificent Carloto Cotta, clearly parodying Cristiano Ronaldo) who backs off the public eye after disgracefully missing the big goal at the World Cup. He then goes on an infectiously silly but ripped-from-the-headlines journey that confronts neofascism, Brexit, the refugee crisis, genetic modification, and giant Pekingese puppies. In a word: bonkers. (92 mins., DCP)

Please note: special event parking ($5) is available in Ohio Union South Garage for these screenings. Please allow extra time for travel and parking.

"There’s precious little risk of leaving Diamantino unfulfilled…Part B-movie spoof, part handcrafted satire, Diamantino is like looking at today’s Europe through a funhouse mirror, and somehow seeing it more clearly as a result."
