Set in a Mennonite community outside of Chihuahua (with a cast of nonactors speaking Plautdietsch), Silent Light chronicles the marital crisis triggered by a man who’s torn between his devotion to his family and his very open affair with another Mennonite woman. Reygadas presents his audience with a glimpse into a virtually unknown part of Mexican culture along with an unforgettable ending that manages to be both tranquil and audacious. (127 mins., 35mm)

"A deeply considered, formally accomplished, beautiful-looking and unexpectedly gripping film from a director making a giant leap into the first rank of world cinema."
