Structured as a love letter to her daughter, For Sama follows Waad al-Kateab’s life over five years as she falls in love, gets married, and gives birth—all while the cataclysmic uprising in Aleppo, Syria, unfolds around her. On scales both epic and intimate, her camera captures life during wartime and the repercussions of conflict on women and children. (95 mins., DCP)
