Post tenebras lux

(Light after Darkness, Carlos Reygadas, 2012)

Post tenebras lux is Reygadas’s kaleidoscopic portrait of a family that eschews the pace and comfort of city life for a simpler one in the country. Once there, things begin to unravel for the mother and father as their seemingly idyllic dynamic shifts from tender to brutal. Gradually, as the demands of parenthood mount and the prospects of sex diminish, Reygadas reveals the very literal demons that lie beneath their relationship. The provocative feature won Reygadas a Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival. (120 mins., DCP)
