The Hips and the Booty Don’t Lie: Counterfeit Madison and the White American Thing, Episode 1

Virtual

Join composer and musician Sharon Udoh of the Columbus-based musical collective Counterfeit Madison for this timely and honest conversation about race and identity in the US. The prerecorded talk is followed by a live Q&A.

Over these past few years, Udoh has taken note of two things: one, that white Americans (in general) don't particularly love talking about themselves as white people, and two, this fact, contrasted with how often Black Americans (again, in general) think about their race, might be an issue.

In this project, Udoh asks simple questions of herself, her body, and also of some white people from the community, enabling us all to reflect on who we really are, where we are in our journeys of understanding our identities, and how we can continue the process of interrogating and discovering ourselves.

Note: you'll be able to take part in the Q&A directly through Vimeo.

Watch wexarts.org for the second episode of this conversation in November.
